PHP is the most used server-side programming language for web-development, and it has a market share of 79.2% for running websites. This language has endured the market for so long due to its ties with WordPress, which runs 40% of all websites globally.
Frameworks
As a versatile language, PHP extends its compatibility with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL along with web servers such as, Apache and Nginx.
A popular framework for PHP is Laravel, a full-stack framework where you can build both front-end and back-end. It's free and open-source which means that a lot of developers can easily use it to build their own applications.
Along with Laravel, we also have Symfony, and of course WordPress itself that gives a new level of creativity in using PHP.
